Although this is not my first attempt to blog (I once had a LiveJournal in high school and it was filled with all of my teen angst for a whole year), I would like to think that this attempt will be successful. Why? Good question - I'll have to come back to you on that one.
The reason this blog has come about is due to my inconsistent and sometimes unexplainable obsessions. I jump around to all arenas of life and read, research, and completely throw myself into the areas that catch my eye. For instance, I am currently involved in container vegetable gardening, paper crafts (specifically invitations and stationary), and ways to be thrifty. I can honestly say that the latter has been a huge part of my life ever since I was in my sophomore year of college, but it has turned into more of a game rather than a necessity. In fact, I think my husband would appreciate letting some of that particular interest go because I drive him crazy. Besides being thrifty, other interests have come and gone.
At one point I was very interested in cupcakes. I really only made two or three batches before I realized that I might be interested, but nothing tasty would come to fruition. Basically, I've decided that it is quite difficult to make cupcakes (or cakes) taste the same as they look when decorated. Candied bits and sugared this-and-that only make the cake gritty and unpleasant. Fondant and I will never be friends, either. It just doesn't taste good.
Another interest that has come and gone (with the help of good sense and time) is trying to leave my hometown. Every once and awhile I get what my mom calls a "wild hair" and think that it would be so great to get out of the only town that I've ever lived in. I was born here, raised here, even went to college (the best one!) here. Then I thought it might suffocate me. It was too small...I already knew everyone...there was nothing left for me here. Completely false, by the way. I met my husband, fell in love with him, and married him here. We bought our own home and we're making my hometown our hometown. I am completely immersed into my home and what I do, which brings me to my blog title: Home-grown Woots.
I am home-grown, and I appreciate home-grown. Let me be clear: I don't mean always from scratch, hand-made, or recycled. I mean something from the heart. If that means cut and bake cookies, then cut and back cookies it is. Someone had taken time to buy the dough, cut it up, then bake it. There's something about those cookies that is much more appealing than Chips Ahoy. So I want that. I want to celebrate that with a woot. Look for more, because I want to blog the woots that I come across for several reasons: fun, information, and because my blog is free and you're the one spending time to read it.
xoxo,
S

I love the links to urbandictionary.com and wikipedia.com. Informative and insightful. I'm going to need a little more of that aforementioned teen angst, though.
